Penwith College - Information, Advice and Guidance

At Penwith College each and every student is important to us and we put you at the heart of everything we do. We're there to help you every step of the way and our unique range of support services will make sure you never feel out of your depth.

Personal tutor
You will have the support of a personal Guidance and Support Tutor. It's their job to help you with your work, listen to any worries you may have at college or outside and to let you know how you are getting on. Always remember, you're not on your own!

Study help
Because we all need a little extra help from time to time, our specialist staff are there to support you in your studies. Whether it's advice, information or individual help with exams you need, we're never far away.

Don't struggle. Ask your tutor or call us to make an appointment with our Learning Support staff.

Careers advice

Whatever your plans for the future, our Guidance and Support staff can help you look at the choices available and make the right choice for you. If you're thinking of going to university we can help you with your UCAS application.

Progress Reports and Consultation Evenings
Your Guidance and Support Tutor is happy to discuss how you are getting on with your parents/carers at any time. We send you regular Progress Reports and invite you to Consultation Evenings.

Learning Support
We are also here to support students with learning difficulties. We offer extra one-to-one support in literacy, study skills, numeracy and IT. We have specially modified equipment for students with physical disabilities.

Money matters
If you are under 19 you may be able to get financial help through the Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) Scheme. This will depend on your household income. Your school will send you further information before you enrol.

Adult Learning Grants (ALG) give similar support to students between 19 and 30. To find out if you would be eligible, please contact the college.

If you are having problems finding cash for books, equipment etc. contact your Guidance and Support Tutor. You may qualify for financial help.

Counselling
If something is concerning you and you need someone to talk to in confidence, our trained counsellors are there to help. Contact your tutor to make an appointment.

Transport
If you live more than 3 miles away from the college, are under 19, live within the college catchment area and are studying full-time, you could get help towards the cost of transport.
