FdSc Salon and Spa Management

The is a course designed to enable students to become successful Salon and Spa managers whilst developing their own therapeutic skills and techniques.

 

This new development is offered as either a full-time 2 year Foundation Degree or on a part-time basis over, normally, 3 years. Professionals wishing to undertake Continuing Professional Development by taking individual modules will also be welcomed.

 

Course Content

Stage 1 has a core of:

  • Professional Development
  • Managing People
  • Human Biological Sciences
  • Business Law
  • Creative Salon Promotion
  • Work-Based Learning

In addition students can choose 2 therapies in Hairdressing and/or Beauty Therapy. These include:

  • Advanced Creative Hair Cutting Techniques
  • Advanced Creative Hair Colouring and Colour Correction
  • Spa Treatments
  • Advanced Massage Therapies

 

Stage 2 has a core of:

  • Business Planning
  • Managing Finance
  • Strategic Marketing
  • Client Health Management

Alongside the core is a range of options focussed on either or both of Beauty Therapies, such as Advanced Epilation and Advanced Facial Techniques and Hairdressing, such as Advanced Techniques in Style Design  and  Hair, skin and scalp conditions, diseases and treatment. For those looking at progression to the Business administration degree, there is Research methods and Business Strategy with economy in society.

 

Entry requirements

 

NVQ level 3 in a relevant vocational area. Professional experience will be considered for accreditation of prior learning. Professionals seeking CPD will be assessed similarly.

 

Progression Opportunities

 

Successful students will be able to join the final year of the BSc International Spa Management (online) from the University of Derby , or the BA (Hons) Hairdressing and Salon Management also at the University of Derby, or the BA (Hons) Business Administration at the University of Plymouth or Cornwall College.
