Course structure
This new programme of study comprises of two equal stages containing 6 modules each. The course is primarily designed for those already working in an educational role and is thus offered on a part-time basis over 4 years. Students wishing to study fill-time will also be welcomed.
Course Content
Stage 1 covers a core of:
- Processes of Teaching and Learning
- Curriculum Studies
- Researching Professional Identities and Practice Styles
- Researching Relations between Theory and Practice
In addition there are 2 pathway defining modules covering
- Tutoring, Mentoring and Guidance Skills
- Introduction to Learning Resources.
Stage 2 modules address:
- Theory in Education and Training
- Research Methods
- Teacher/Practitioner as Researcher
- Professional Practice (2 modules)
- Information Management and the Control of Learning Resources
- Adult Learner in Post Compulsory Education and Training and Learning Technology.
The programme is designed for practitioners working in the broad areas of learning technology, learning support and learning development. The typical student might be employed as a technician, as a librarian, as a learning support worker, as a guidance and support tutor or a distance learning tutor.
Entry requirements
60-120 UCAS points from “A” Level or BTEC National Diploma, or NVQ level 3 in a relevant vocational area, or an Access to HE certificate. Professional experience will be considered for accreditation of prior learning. Professionals seeking CPD will be assessed similarly.
Progression opportunities
Successful students will be able to join the final year of the BA (Hons) Education Studies at the University of Plymouth.
