FdA Education and Training
Up to 2 Years
(In partnership with the University of Greenwich)
Do you have a Certificate in Education or its equivalent, teach or train in the post compulsory sector, and wish to progress your career and qualifications? Are you to busy to attend College each week? By gaining credit for your previous experience, and by studying flexibly for 18 months you can achieve a Foundation Degree in Education and Training.
What will I gain?
The Foundation Degree in Education and Training is a qualification in it’s own right that equates to the first two years of a full degree. It is an excellent vehicle for Continuing Professional Development, and can be topped up to a full degree.
What Qualifications do I need?
A Certificate in Education awarded by a UK University or other recognised body and normally have completed at least 2 years full time teaching (or its part time equivalent).
or
Possess a UK Qualified Teacher Status and have completed at least 2 years full time teaching (or its part time equivalent).
or
Be involved in Vocational or Adult Education and Training and have completed at least 2 years full time teaching or training (or its part time equivalent) and have successfully completed a course comparable in level to the Certificate in Education leading to teacher registration.
or
Have completed at least 3 years full time teaching (or its part equivalent) in post compulsory Education or Training; and be able to demonstrate to the pathway leader, at interview or in writing, the ability to benefit from the programme and to reflect knowledge gained in professional practice.
What is my commitment?
This course is an in – service part time flexible learning programme. It normally takes 18 months to complete. The mode of study is flexible, however some attendance at study days is required to receive information and share experiences with other students.
What will I study?
There are 3 core modules
- Work – Based Professional Development Portfolio
- Critical Thinking
- Educational Research Methods
And 2 option modules from a choice of 6.
Assessment
Each unit is assessed through a number of tasks and assignments. There are no examinations.
Method of Teaching
A fully qualified, experienced tutor will guide you through the programme of study. Contact with your tutor can be made via e-mail, telephone, fax, visits, meeting with the tutor and by letter.

prepare coursework.
We pride ourselves on our Guidance and Support system, which is unique in Cornwall. Our Guidance and Support team is here to help you achieve your goals and assist you with any concerns you may have relating to your studies.
You will be expected to equip yourself with suitable stationery.
Note: Any course costs and associated costs (such as excursions and visits, protective clothing, etc) can be ascertained from Admissions and the Course Co-ordinator before enrolment.
Funding
Discretionary awards are available from the County Council Education Department.
Student loans are available through the student loans company.
Up to date information regarding fees can be ascertained from the course co-ordinator.
Progression
Upon successful completion of the Foundation Degree programme students may continue their professional development and progress to level 3 in order to gain one of the following Honours Degrees:
- BA Hons Education and Training
- BSc Hons Education and Training
- BSc Hons Education and Training (eLearning)
