NVQs in Assessment & Verification
Assessor Award
This qualification is a level 3 award in Assessing Candidates Using a Range of Methods and is aimed at those who assess NVQ candidates against national standards. The award is for those who are carrying out the following tasks:
- Developing plans for assessing competence with NVQ candidates
- Judging evidence against NVQ criteria to make assessment decisions
- Providing feedback and support to NVQ candidates on assessment decisions
- Contributing to the internal quality assurance process
To achieve the full award candidates must be occupationally competent and actively assessing NVQ candidates against national standards. For example, to be able to assess candidates who are working towards an NVQ in the care sector the ‘trainee assessor’ must be highly qualified and be able to prove occupational expertise and experience in that particular sector.
Internal Verifier Award
This qualification is a level 4 award in Conducting Internal Quality Assurance of the Assessment Process. The award is for those who are carrying out the following tasks:
- Carrying out and evaluating internal assessment and quality assurance systems
- Supporting assessors
- Monitoring the quality of assessors’ performance
- Meeting external quality assurance requirements
To achieve the full award candidates must currently be an active NVQ assessor for a minimum of one year and be fully aware of the internal and external verification process of NVQs. They must also be in a position where they are responsible for a team of NVQ assessors in order to support and standardise the assessment process.
