Who can use the Library?

Staff and students enrolled on mainstream full-time or part-time courses, subject to the payment of the current book deposit.

What’s in the Library?

There are over 20 000 books and more than 80 journal titles, as well as the following multi-media resources: Internet, CD-ROMs, videos, audio-cassettes, slides, film-strips, computer software and music CDs. Viewing/listening equipment is also available.

What if it’s not in stock?

If you cannot find the information you need in the Library, we may be able to borrow material for you from outside sources, eg. The British Library inter-library loans scheme, Cornish Studies Collection, County Art Collection, and Music and Drama Library. Please give as much notice as possible – getting inter-library loans can take time.

How do I renew my loan?

Books and other items can be renewed over the telephone or with your Library card at the Library desk, provided another user has not reserved them. After 3 consecutive renewals the item must be returned to the Library for a week.

Overdue loans

Please return all books on time – other people may need them. Overdue lists will be posted weekly on the board outside the Guidance and Support Tutors’ office. Students who do not respond to repeated overdue notices will be banned from using the Library facilities and Cyberloft until the overdue item is returned.

Working in the Library

The Library provides an ideal environment for study. Students are expected to work quietly and not distract other Library users from their work. For this reason refreshments are not permitted here and mobile phones should be switched off.

Cyberloft

The Cyberloft is an open-access computing area on the top floor of the Library. From the computer stations in the Cyberloft you can access your user area on the College computer network. Internet, word processing, spreadsheet, database, desk-top publishing, scanning and graphics facilities are available. An IT Support Tutor is available at all times to help you.

Internet

The Library and Cyberloft have Internet access. Please ask staff if you need help in locating information on the Internet – or go to our site-listings-page on the College Intranet for ideas.

Photocopying

The Library has photocopiers offering black and white and colour photocopying, plus enlargement and reduction facilities. Photocopying cards can be bought from Library staff.

The Careers Library

The resources in the careers section of the Library includes University prospectuses, guides to particular jobs and software such as ECCTIS and ADULT DIRECTIONS to help you make informed career choices.

Study Support

The College offers individual Study Skills, Basic Maths and English, and specialist dyslexia support to all mainstream students. Support sessions take place in the Study Skills Centre, located in the Library. Contact any member of the Library staff to arrange to talk to the support tutors, look at our Intranet pages, or visit the Centre yourself and browse through the materials on display.
