Penwith Hair and Beauty Students present Fashion Show 2007

Penwith College theatre was full to burst when the audience arrived for the fashion show arranged by the College’s Hair and Beauty team. The scene was set with music and lighting and an atmosphere heightened with anticipation.

The students modelled a variety of dresses and suits from formal ball gown to cocktail dress in a myriad of colours, sparkles and feathers, demonstrating a wide range of sizes, styles and finishes.  It was evident that both the level 2 and 3 hair and beauty students, made a great team working together with staff; to not only plan the event and provide the creativity and skills for the hair and make-up, but many of them becoming models themselves for the night. Special thanks go to Owen Smith, Charlie Monk, Toby Spencer and Mark Nicholas; who, looking very handsome in their dinner jackets escorted our female models on the catwalk, with Sarah Pratt (Beauty therapy course co-ordinator) as compere. The intervals were electric with the stage coming alive to the beat and raw talent of Fiona Richardson’s dance group ‘Sweet Flavar’ – to whom an enormous thank you goes out.  Thanks for the evening also go to go to Burtons of Penzance, Brides of Penzance, Little Ann Maids of Camborne, Dune of Hayle, Pam’s People of Truro/Helston and Marks and Spencer of Hayle for the loan of all the outfits. Also, a special thank you goes to Body Shop at Home, Penwith District Council and Marks and Spencer for their contribution of prizes. Finally to the staff and students at Penwith College who set up the lighting, music and photography, as well as all the un-seen organisation of the event, which was held to raise funds for West Cornwall Hospital, which will be presented to them shortly. Sarah Pratt said “The evening proved to be a complete success with the atmosphere both front and back stage buzzing. These, together with the immense talent that Penwith College’s hair and beauty department has to offer, make it the place to be in the future.”

Sarah Pratt and Val Tredrea (Hairdressing course co-ordinator) are both delighted with the support of everyone who came, and warmly welcome anyone who wishes to enquire about hair or beauty courses for the future.
